PHILMONT HIGH ADVENTURE |
|
From July 16 through July 30, Troop 202 sent two crews totalling 20 Scouts and adults to High Adventure at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. We flew to Albuquerque, New Mexico and took a four hour drive to Cimarron. The next day we began our preparation in Base Camp, going through logistics, medical, and finalizing details. The next day we had our pictures taken and each crew set out on its separate itinerary. Upon returning to Base Camp, we turned in our equipment and attended an evening campfire after having dinner in the Saint James Hotel. The next day we toured the Villa Philmonte and had lunch in Cimarron before driving back to Albuquerque and flying home. Crew 7-17 K1 consisted of seven Scouts and three adult leaders. Their itinerary included Lover's Leap, Urraca Camp, Fish Camp, Beaubien, Crooked Creek, Clear Creek, over Mt. Phillips to Red Hills, through Black Mountain to North Fork Urraca, and over the Tooth Ridge to Base Camp. Crew 7-17 K2 consisted of six Scouts and four adults. Their itinerary went through Vaca Camp, Deer Lake with a stop at Harlan for shotgun shooting, Ute Gulch, going through Cimarroncito and the Hunting Lodge to Lambert's Mine, through Cyphers Mine to Mt. Phillips, through Clear Creek to Porcupine, to Beaubien for a layover day after meeting the other crew at Phillips Junction. From there we went to Trail Peak, Abreu, Miner's Park, and over the Tooth Ridge to Base Camp.
