GREEN AND COLORADO RIVERS |
|
From July 19 through August 2, 2005 Troop 202 went on a high adventure trip to the Green and Colorado Rivers in Utah. The first day we flew to Salt Lake City and drove to Green River State Park near the town of Green River. The next day we spent preparing for the canoe trip down the Green River by getting the canoes, water jugs, and gear ready for the trip. The third day we began canoeing on the river. There were two groups, each travelling the same route but functioning as separate crews. We met up from time to time such as at the Crystal Geyser and hiking up to the saddle at Bowknot Bend. We thoroughly enjoyed the desert colors and a beautiful rainbow we saw one day. After dealing with the heat, mosquitoes, and tamarisk for eight days, we met again at Mineral Bottom where we were picked up. All in all, it was a memorable time coping with all the obstacles the river presented to us. After an evening in Moab, we spent the next three days floating down the Colorado River. We all had fun traversing the rapids, enjoying the lack of mosquitoes, and swimming and side hikes on the river. The third day we arrived near Hite Marina on Lake Powell and flew in small planes back to Moab. The flight was very memorable as we got to see from the air the same river we had just travelled down by boat. We had dinner back in Moab and the next day we spent preparing our gear for our trip back to Oakland and touring Arches National Park. We visited Landscape Arch and ran into a downpour on our way to a view of Delicate Arch. That evening we had a well-deserved restaurant dinner in Moab. The next day we drove back to Salt Lake City and flew home to Oakland.
